Dear readers, blessings to you on this first day of the season of Advent! We are planning to publish a poem every day from now until Christmas Eve, in remembrance of our Lord’s coming and in expectation of his return. As always, we welcome your own contributions.
Advent I
by Phoebe Anthus
The stars were strewn as freckles,
restless as the wriggled mass,
the night you came.
I can’t help wondering if
the constellations covering your tiny nose
might rightly be seen as
angels singing
“Glory to God” or maybe “Goodwill towards men”
In any case, they welcomed you.
Tumbled over themselves with joy,
each outfreckling the other in jubilance,
scrunched here and there with laughter,
the night you came.
