Nest Hands

by Renea McKenzie

i fetal myself
into your
nest-hands
the fleshy
heel a pillow
the whirr of
cosmos pulsing
in my ear
my shoulders
dip into your
lifelines
my legs curl
at the curve
of your fingers
you blanket
me in stillness
steadfast darkness
morning finds
me unfurled
stretched
upon your open
palm

Renea McKenzie, M.A., is a Texas native whose work often reflects the intersection of faith and protest and, somewhat similarly, the way north-Texas wildlife stubbornly adapts to the sprawling city.
