Thoughts of Dust

by Josiah Peachey

The mind ascends in flights
of raptured aspiration yet
all speech stumbles over teeth,
tongue, lips, breath-stuttered
staggering incarnation of
thought to speech.

The mind seeks gnosis while
true knowledge lurks beneath the
particulars, proliferation of portraiture,
earth bound, dust heap, spirit moved:
shuddering movement of
symbol to referent.

The spirit wars against the flesh
but in the beginning was the Word
who rested good what he had made,
world walking, image bearing, life breathed:
formed harmonic of
embodied soul to God.

Josiah Peachey enjoys writing, conversation, philosophy, and naps.
