autumn leaf
by David Shafer
a whisper on a shallow breath
drifting to a gentle death
the leaf, it falls without a sound
to join his fellows on the ground
not sad to fall, not sad to die
content to let the season by
he offers not a cry or fight
but bows and fades into the night
there lives strange peace here at the end
where nature has no breath to lend
when dust returns its borrowed soul
and melts once more into the whole
David Shafer enjoys his life as a rather ordinary human living with his extraordinary wife and kids in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
