At Least Four Examples

by Daniel Hess

a day after the rains
an innocent mallard
stood close to the full ditch

when things dried up a bit
a busy hen or two
scratched away at the dust

lounging calmly in
the lone cottonwood’s shade
a couple of good cows

the neglected window
gladly accommodates
a refugee spider

While often failing to find the right balance in time management and priorities, Daniel Hess delights in finding poetry in unexpected places and the joy of bringing it to life with words.
