Lullaby to a Wide-awake Mind

By Rebecca Weber

It’s bedtime. I repeat: It’s time for bed.
High time to settle down to blessed sleep.
Oh, frowsy brain, do not lift up your head
But nod off gentle in the shadows—keep
Your fires banked for morning. Draw the shades
Across the windows of your soul and cast
All cares on Christ. Let daylight’s duty fade
And yield yourself to rest. Embrace the vast
Tranquility of night; exhale a prayer.
The candle, too, shall flutter out—the light
Slip down to cozy dreams, and there, and there
All knowing, being, drifts into the night

Good night,

Good night

goodnight.
