Upon Encountering God

by Sheila Petre

The key to comprehension is reduction.
If a thought has got beyond you, tug it back
Lest its gist be lost in vastness
Or your spirit swung from fastness,
Make your mind to run a more terrestrial track.

A framework less extensive means achievement;
A ceiling’s more attainable than sky.
If you’d rather love not sear you,
Set a roadblock somewhere near you.
Hold your breath. Retreat. Reduce. Accept the lie.
You only need a little space to die.

Sheila is a Pennsylvania housewife who shares love, laughter and the hope of the resurrection with her welder husband, Michael, and their eight children born from 2007 through 2019.
