Course
by Obi Martin
Course. May the course of life
Run through you, ragged, rough
And ready. Resounding from rivulets
To resonance and running. May Christ
Run through you. Not the symbol,
But the spirit of him, his waiting, arriving
And powerful return. And when he
Comes back, may there be faith upon
This earth. This gentle, ragged,
Illimitable earth, this soft, and
Breathing thing. May Christ,
Not the symbol but the spirit of him
Run through your body, this here
And now. May faith beyond faith
Course through you, run through
Your entrails, full like sheafs of light
Shocked from empty stalk to flower
Crowded heads, heavy with the weight of
Golden becoming. Hanging down, crystalline
And ready to die. As sure as Christ,
ploughing up the furrows of this heaving earth.
Plodding, heavy, fitful, fit for Resurrection.
The times that Obi Martin feels most alive come often when he is reading or writing.

Gloriously stirring.
This is beautiful.
I keep coming back to this poem again and again. The pulse of hope and resurrection, and the glorious urgency. It’s beautiful.
