Sparklers

by Sarah J. Martin

Spit your fire—
Flash and sizzle!
This tiny spray of dance and fizzle
Will sing to us of summer nights,
Birthday cakes, and celebration,
Leaping sparks and shared elation.

Sing your light,
And light our singing!
While your flashing beams are flinging
Twinkling flares upon our faces,
The only certainty is wonder—
Pleasure is this moment’s plunder.

Sarah lives in the rocks and trees of cottage country, where she loves family, words, old books and buildings, and light in all its forms.
