Steady
by Sherri Steiner
The shadows enter in and I rest, bowed,
and crickets sing and rhythm full surrounds
my tired heart. A grief has settled down
and made its home within this earthen space.
A perching sparrow on a bending stem,
with wings that rise and fall unsteadily,
so is the love and grief within my heart.
These feelings come, like summer, grow and fade.
Still steady on its track, light blooms and dies,
and hope brings joy and grace, and sometimes cries.
Taught by country life and students, Sherri is learning to love both the dramatic and the mundane.
