The Darkest Hour
by Rebecca Weber
“…time is nothing to the night.” —Conrad Martin, Second Winter
We count the hours till day must break
Yet scarce do we expect the sight
Of light once more on waking hills
For Time is nothing to the Night.
Eternity finds voice in stars,
Desire for heaven they ignite
In us—but even stars shall fade
And Time is nothing to the Night.
In sweeps the blackness—sentience lost:
The vale may be a mountain height,
Does darkness past spell dark to come
As Time is nothing to the Night?
Yet there’s a place where time returns—
Some purple ridge where one first ray
Of light diffuses through the sky—
And night is nothing to the Day.
Rebecca is happiest in the company of housework, words, and people of all sorts, and joyfullest in the presence of Jesus. She lives in the beautiful multicultural city of Kitchener and blogs at journeyintohislight.wordpress.com.
