Resting

by Sherri Steiner

A stoic tree in dull December’s teeth,
My tired tears again refrain from falling,
Too tightly clenched to break in sad relief.
My brittle words are curled though the calling
Of snow and peace and gently padding feet
Comes swirling to my ears and longing beckons.
Oh, may dusk’s calm bring rest to every street
And every tree and every leaf that reckons
A falling not less restful than a roaming,
A resting not less hopeful than a homing.

Taught by country life and students, Sherri is learning to love both the dramatic and the mundane.
