I Am Looking

by Anita Yoder

I am looking for an explanation that eludes me.
When this candle burns down, the wax will tell me.
Maybe tonight’s owl will whisper my answer
Then wisp away, lighter than a wink.
The explanation is hiding in the ribbon unwinding
From my winter wreath.
If I could unravel the wave, untangle the tide,
I could see the sand ripple a golden current
And I would know, I could trace
The answer that purples up the sky
And lingers on the curl of the surf then
Crashes out of sight
But I am blind again.

Anita has written one book and dreams of another because she loves playing with words.
