Wholly Writ

by Josiah Peachey

There is no goose wild enough
To give the truth fair chase

Only the Holy Ghost who haunts the hunting
Bears down on us like heaven

Breaks out a collection of quills
Through time-lapsed scribe-wrapped
Collation of eternal speech

Open the double-barreled book
Choked up with prophecy
Prepare owls in the desert
Turn pelicans to sea

The chase is on, the hound set loose
This canon’s fire, sword inspire
Cut the distance down to none

The earth shot through leaves perforate
Dove drops as swift as tears

Through pages take your search and see
Here bleeds a Body clothed with words
Whose speech contains creation

Just here He rises, speaks,
And draws us to the chase

  1. what of half writ
    done in sanskrit what of
earth speak done in house squeak
what of all the unwritten words
carried by the beaks of beakless birds
how can you bind all with the speech of an unutterable wind song
strung through the world like fishnet, a poverty in proverb
the slow lines that evolved so well under pressure what makes your community and its book authoritative and no other, brother you sound like them west virginians with their snakes getting bit and believing every word the whole time but you dont rhyme very well with pluralism neither do you reckon with the rise and flow of other so called sacred texts that speak in other ways with similar grandiosity what do you say to that my sir or do you mean something other than the dust off the Good Book when you peal your cannons so vigorously, what is it like to hear the great bells of all true words gonged together and how can you so confidiboriously extrapolate all manner of grandiosity beyond the fingers of scribes and the reimagination of redactors into divine creativity and beyond as if the only way we come to know the truest things is by entering a text so permeable and so dubious to so many people as to warrant an intervention.
