Sickle Moon
by Peter Venable
In the Autumn sun
A prismatic of ripening peppers—
green to yellow to red—
blanches in moonlight
to slate shades—
the garden now a ghostly whisper.
In lunar shadows
An opossum joey
nibbles a fallen fat pepper
and upon a barren branch
a Great Gray Owl hears,
turns, stares.
Peter has written sacred and Christian verse for many decades. He’s appeared in Ancient Paths, Amethyst Review, The Windhover, Prairie Messenger, The Christian Century, The Merton Seasonal, Vita Poetica Journal, and others. He is a septuagenarian, happily married, “Poppy” to two granddaughters, a Christ follower, volunteers at a prison camp, and takes inmates to Celebrate Recovery. His Jesus Through A Poet’s Lens is available on Kindle.
