I Love the Way the Light
by Sarah J. Martin
The way the light lies on the leaves,
The way the leaves long for the light;
Existence spread to catch bright gleams,
To drip it to the forest floor
Like rich gold honey meant to share.
And falling through the eager leaves,
The light becomes a dappled thing
Where shadows of the butterflies
Dance on a canvas made of air.
My soul is wordless. It is spread
Like outstretched leaves to feel the sun,
And shadowed tears that slowly move
Trace paths that reach the Heart of light.
And somewhere from a yearning place
My naked heart still runs to him.
He gathers me, and all that’s small
And weak and overwhelmed in me,
Wrapped in his glowing sympathy,
Becomes a braver thing, and drips
To join the honeyed dance of life.
Sarah lives in the rocks and trees of cottage country, where she loves family, words, old books and buildings, and light in all its forms.

Beautiful and rich. Especially love “He gathers me, and all that’s small and weak and overwhelmed in me, wrapped in his glowing sympathy, becomes a braver thing…”!! Thank you Sarah! ❤️
