Poetry Readings

Our monthly poetry readings are a place where readers and writers can get together in a friendly space and enjoy literature. We think that good coffee, good food, and good books make for a very worthwhile afternoon. Our readings help to create a community of those who care about meaningful literature. We generally read original poetry, old classics, and occasionally stories as well, interspersing our reading with plenty of good conversations. Join us and bring something you’ve written or another favorite you’d like to share.

We usually hold our readings at several small cafés in Maryland and Pennsylvania, though we hold some of our readings in our homes, or the homes of friends. If you’re unable to attend the readings in the Maryland or Pennsylvania, and you’d like to hold an event in another location, contact us and we’d be glad to help advertise for you.

Upcoming Readings

January 13 | 3:30 pm

We are gathering for winter festivities and poetry reading on January 13th at the beautiful ThorpeWood lodge, tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Thurmont, MD.

If you like roasted chestnuts, pulling taffy, and batting good literature about, you might want to be there. Feel free to stick around for supper afterwards. Festivities will begin around 3:30 pm.

  • Bring a poem or two to read aloud. It may be written by yourself or another. If possible, select a poem that is related (however tenuously [but be prepared to defend the relation!]) to Death, Stars, or Mathematics
  • We will be laying out a charcuterie board, help us fill it in by bringing along crackers, cheese, fruit, chocolate or a dip
  • And clean, unscented hands (you may need them for pulling taffy)

Anyone coming from a distance can contact us to arrange carpooling or lodging. The address of ThorpeWood lodge is 12805-A Mink Farm Road, Thurmont, MD 21788.
